These 8 photos were done at 9PM on February 5, 2009 on the rim next to El Tovar Lodge at the Grand Canyon.
All were shot with a Nikon D300 and Tamron 10-24 wide angle zoom.
The D300 ISO was set at 3200. Note the "Big Dipper" just right of center. The gold bushes were lit by th path lights along the rim.
All we shot at 30 sec at F/8, an exposure determined by experiment, manual focus.
The number of stars shown is startling! See the plane in the upper right corner.
No color correction was required. The Nikon figured it out itself (Auto White Balance) although moonlight is just reflected sunlight but slightly blue.
Duplicate of the preceeding photo, with slight color correction to what daylight looks like so you can see the diference.
The bright object just above the horizon on the left is Venus.
The bushes were lit by sodium vapor lamps which are reddish gold.
