Pilgrims at a statue of the VM in Harissa

The statue from the other side

View of the Mediterranean from Harissa shows the density of building along the coast

Egg-sized cable cars up the hill to the shrine in Harissa - we rode them down.

Riding the "egg" down the mountain

Our companions in the "egg" were from Istanbul

And the young lady wore the most interesting pair of shorts

Sunbathers at the beach where we had lunch - grilled fish

But the beach was rocky and mostly for sunbathing

The medieval building on top of the Roman, Phonecian, etc. site is a museum

In the middle ages, they used the fallen Roman columns to build their walls

Another wall incorporating Roman columns

Hallways were typical medieval - massive stones, open to the outside for light

Roman ruins on the Byblos site

Arching from the right is the ancient Roman city wall (looks like a gear)

The Romans built a small amphitheater

The earlier settlers (earlier than 1000 BC) buried their dead in jars - this is a 5 year old

Byblos is popular for weddings

Another wedding group at the medieval church in Byblos

Harleys, the worldwide favorite, here in flat black

Porsche Cayennes too - everywhere in the Middle East - like Priuses in Santa Monica

Even if its a VW Golf, they like their bling

The medieval indoor market at Byblos. There was a shop here that specialized in the fossilized fishes found nearby

The arctic N of Canada from our plane home

We watched the desolate area for almost an hour

Looks like a crater!
